All It Takes

I was outside raking leaves in my new little house on a lake in Billerica, MA.  The war in Iraq was on the horizon.  I felt the despair and powerlessness of violence yet again taking form.  I had to believe in the power that each of us holds to name and transform that which threatens our lives in all its forms.

When one pebble falls in the quiet pond the ripples have begun.
When one bird sings in the dead of night the silence is undone.
When one star pierces the twilight the rest are soon to come.
When one person dares to reach out through pain the truth has won.

All it takes is one voice.  All it takes is one hand.
All it takes is one step after the other.

When drop of blood finds the quiet pond the ripples have begun.
When one gun shatters the dead of night the silence is undone.
When one bomb pierces the twilight the rest are soon to come.
But when one person dares to reach out through pain the truth has won.

All it takes is one voice.  All it takes is one hand.
All it takes is one step after the other.

All it takes is one voice.  All it takes is one hand.
All it takes is one step after the other.
One step after, one step after, one step after
The other one.
