You Gotta Dance

Sometimes when daily life throws you into spasms of chaos you have at least two choices–let the riptide suck you into the past…or dance with the rage and grief.   Whenever possible, dancing is way better!

On the day when my radiator broke and my radiator started to smoke
And the bank machine ran out of cash.  My computer had to crash.
Then the past rolled in like a storm from the sea,
Tossing and turning, it was looking for me.

I said to the wind, ‘what’s happening now.’
The wind answered me, “Here’s what to do and how.
It’s not time to run.  Stick around til you’re done.
You don’t have to fight but on opening night,

You gotta dance, dance, dance
With the raging sea and the pouring rain.
You gotta dance, dance, dance
With the streams that run on the window pane.
And when the moon is round
And the clouds fly by
You gotta dance dance dance
On the wings of love and the whispered cry of faith.”

Two days later the traffic was a mess
And my mind was a Rorschach test.
I had slept through my alarm that morn.
My hair looked like the Matterhorn
Then the past broke loose like a torrent of rain
Pouring and pounding, it was calling my name.

The wind said to me, ‘it’s happening now.’
I answered the wind, “Here’s what I’ll do and how.
It’s not time to run.  I’ll stick around ‘til I’m done.
I don’t have to fight but on opening night,

I’m gonna dance, dance, dance
With the raging sea and the pouring rain.
I’m gonna dance, dance, dance
With the streams that run on the window pane
And when the moon is round
And the clouds fly by
I’m gonna dance dance dance
On the wings of love and the whispered cry of faith.”

I’m gonna dance, dance, dance
With the raging sea and the pouring rain.
I’m gonna dance, dance, dance
With the streams that run on the window pane
And when the moon is round
And the clouds fly by
I’m gonna dance dance dance
On the wings of love and the whispered cry of faith.
